About Me and This Blog
I'm just a guy on the internet who was diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 51, which is earlier than most men who are diagnosed. Exactly who I am is not important but where I need to address myself I will use my internet handle “Midway”. Feel free to use that if you like.
The inspiration for his blog is two fold. First, my mother had a long battle with breast cancer and one thing she always did was talk to any other woman who was going through it, especially the recently diagnosed. This really seemed to help people. Second, I was talking to a neighbor recently who was telling me of his prostate symptoms and I told him about my cancer. He had a lot of questions as to my story and what I was going through and it seemed to help him. That led me to want to share my story, my journey, with anyone who might want to listen and, hopefully, help some men out there.
This can be a sensitive subject and I think there are a lot of men who would like to talk to other men going through it as a supplement to talking with doctors and medical professionals. Doctors are a great resource for the facts and figures and I am blessed with a wonderful urologist and medical team that has helped me along the way. But I think there is value in talking with men who have gone through it or are going through it to help take the facts and figures and relate them to the real world. That's what this site is about.
My audience is, first and foremost, men who have prostate issues or have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Secondarily, it's other people close to them who are riding along on this journey with them: wives, partners, children, friends, etc.
This is just my story. Every man's story will be different. But it's through talking and learning from each other that we will make it through our journey. No one should have to go through this alone.
In addition to posting to this blog, I am open to private conversations with affected men or the close people in the lives of those men. If you feel that will be helpful, reach out via the contact information page. This can be anything from deep real world conversations about your journey or just constructive feedback on what I'm doing here. This site is a journey as well and I certainly may stumble along the way. But, in the end I hope to do some good and have a positive effect on the lives of men.
